Gainesville, Virginia is an ideal place for students to get involved in community service projects and make a positive impact on the lives of those in the area. The University of Virginia is committed to working with organizations in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties to create a more equitable and sustainable community. One Community Social Services provides essential items such as clothing, furniture, childcare items, toiletries, and other items to more than 3,000 Afghan refugees who have recently arrived in Northern Virginia. Volunteers can also help out at BEACON for Adult Literacy by assisting adults to improve their literacy skills.

The City of Manassas Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is looking for volunteers who are willing to help out during emergencies.
